About Heather

I have been teaching regular education and special education for over twelve years. I have completed my Master's in Education, Mild /Moderate. My undergraduate is a B.Sc. in Accounting and Business Administration. As a teacher I feel that I am empowered to nurture students into being the best that they can be. Teaching is more than just imparting academic knowledge. Teachers are the ones who holds the future for those students who want to excel in their studies. We want the best for students as much as their biological parents do. Teaching is my passion and I am a testimony to my students that education is key to being successful.
As a teacher I set a good example and I also try to be a role model for my students. I support them continuously so that they can achieve their dreams. I also sacrifice my time as I believe that everyone is special in their own way. Success does not come easy, it certainly takes a lot of hard work. I remind my students that their sacrifices are worth a lifetime of rewards. I am thrilled when I see that a student is trying and progressing. It's the effort and the persistence that builds character.

I help struggling students to build confidence in their skills. I breathe new life into the subject for students who are bored with numbers. I am aware that students learn in different ways and as a result I tailor my instructions accordingly. I show students more than one method of problem solving and I observe which is easier for them.

I also try to incorporate students' interests into the lesson so that will hopefully captivate them and hold their attention. I attended Loma Linda University in California and transferred to Cal State San Bernardino where I completed my Bachelor's in Accounting and Business Administration.

I am intuitive and I teach students how to identify a particular sound. I also teach them how to recognize the sounds of language. I incorporate picture cards, games and read aloud books as well. I help them to understand and to manipulate certain sounds in words and to master pre-reading strategies. I have been teaching for over twelve years. I also work a lot with ESL students as well.

I cherish my students despite the daily setbacks or challenges that they may encounter. I possess a unique creativeness and I manage to keep a smile on my face while everyone else is complaining. I am very flexible and I possess a good sense of humor. I also have a Master's in Education from Cal State San Bernardino, Mild/Moderate Special education.

Please contact me if you would like tutoring in Math, reading or English tutoring. I am available for the summer 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday. I am available some weekends by appointment.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have taught business and job skills at the high school level. I also have an accounting and business degree. I also own and operate my own retail company
which I have been managing for many years.

CBEST

I have passed the official CBEST test which is a requirement to be a teacher. The test is comprised of three sections, Reading, Writing and Mathematics. I am proficient in all these areas.

Common Core

As a teacher, I apply Common Core standards daily. These goals are the rubric that states what a student should know and be able to accomplish at the end of each grade. The goal of the standard is to ensure that all students who graduate from high school, excel in their careers, succeed in college and in life,
regardless of where they live.

GED

I have a Masters in Education.

IELTS

The International language testing system (IELTS) test is the most popular language proficiency test for higher education. It assesses reading, speaking, listening and writing. I studied under the British system and this tests utilizes a one and one speaking test to assess one's English communication skills.

MTLE

The Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE) is equivalent to the California INSTRUCTION Reading Assessment (RICA) test. I have been teaching and tutoring privately for many years and in doing so I conduct the necessary assessments and perform the necessary requirements required for this examination. I also specialize in CBEST tutoring, which is the test that you are required to take before the RICA for the California exam.

Special Needs

I have taught special education classes for over twelve years and I have also completed my Masters in Education, Mild/Moderate. I use differentiated instruction and assess my students to monitor progress. I also modify my lesson plan, for example, by giving shorter lessons, using pictures, and including the students interest. I also incorporate technology so that they learn and build their computer skills at the same time.

STAAR

I have taught both middle school and high school. I have also prepared students for the STAAR exam. I have also administered the test, so I know that the preparation material does relate to the actual test!
