There is a distant formula .... d = r*t
DISTANCE = RATE * TIME
Look at the units that go along ...
(miles) = (miles / hour) * (hour)
Look at what happens when you multiply (miles / hour) * (hour) .... the hours cancel out and you are left with miles ... which is distance!
Ok .... let's see what you know and what you don't know ...
distance = ?
rate = 50 mph
time 1 = 3.3 hours
time 2 = 6.4 hours
We need to find the distance after time 1 and the distance after time 2 ... so let's do those separately!
Plug them into the equation d = r*t
DISTANCE = RATE * TIME
? = 50 * 3.3 (solve for what is unknown)
? = 165
SOLUTION: After 3.3 hours, we travel 165 miles.
Now, how far after 6.4 hours ...
Plug them into the equation d = r*t
DISTANCE = RATE * TIME
? = 50 * 6.4 (solve for what is unknown)
? = 320
SOLUTION: After 6.4 hours, we travel 320 miles.
DISTANCE = RATE * TIME
? = 50 * 6.4 (solve for what is unknown)
? = 320
SOLUTION: After 6.4 hours, we travel 320 miles.
