3 3/8 - 2 1/4 ÷ 1 1/2 ?

Came across this question in an 8th grade paper. Attempted to do it.

             1st  27/8 -9/4 = 9/8

             2nd  9/8 ÷ 3/2 

                   = 3/4

Is this correct

This involves the order of operations, PEMDAS.  

 

In this example, division should be performed first, followed by subtraction.

 

2 1/4 ÷ 1 1/2 = 9/4 ÷ 3/2 = 3/2

 

Then subtraction:

 

27/8 - 3/2 = 27/8 - 12/8 = 15/8 = 1 7/8
