Stephanie, if your friend had c candies, you had 2c candies, right?
 
c + 2c = 36
3c = 36
c = 12
 
You had 24 candies. Talk about a stomachache!

I have the same problem but we are not using letters. How do I solve this? If we divide equally and then I eat twice as much, that would mean I ate all of them but we shared.
