GCF stands for greatest common factor. A factor of a number, is a number multiplied by another to get the desired number. For example, 4 x 2 = 8. Both 4 and 2 are factors of 8. GCF means you are looking for the largest number that is a factor of two different numbers. You can't have a GCF unless you have two different numbers. For example, the GCF of 8 and 16 would be 8. 1 x 8 = 8 2 x 8 = 16 8 is the largest number that can be multiplied to get both numbers.
