A midwestern music competition awarded 34 ribbons. The number of blue ribbons awarded was 2 less than the number of white ribbons. The number of red ribbons was 3 more then the number of white ribbons. How many of each kind of ribbon was awarded?

b+r+w = 34

b = w-2

r= w+3

 

w-2 + w+3 +w =34

3w + 1 = 34

3w = 33

w = 11

 

b= 11-2 = 9

r = 11+3  14
