Factor all terms in division or multiplication expression.

 

 

Step 2 (if working with division):

 

If you have a division expression, then multiply by the reciprocal of the second rational term.

 

 

Step 3:

 

Cancel out any factors.  This is why we factor out terms from step 1.

 

 

Step 4:

 

Get your simplified result.

 

 

When adding/subtracting rational expressions, get your common denominator.  Then add or subtract numerators.
