Allison, how do we find area? Length x width.

 

If the width is w, then the length is 2w + 7, right?

 

w(2w + 7) = 99

2w² + 7w = 99

2w² + 7w - 99 = 0

(2w - 11)(w + 9) = 0

 

2w - 11 = 0

2w = 11

w = 5.5

l = 2(5.5) + 7 = 18

 

w + 9 = 0

w = -9

Since measurement is never negative, this answer is out.
