The distance between to points (x1, y1), (x2, y2) is
d = √[(x2-x1)2+(y2-y1)2
for (-2,3), (-18,3)
d = √[(-18-(-2))2+(3-3)2]
= √[(-18+2)2]
= √(-16)2
d = 16
You could also solve this problem without using the
distance formula. Since the y coordinates are the
same, 3, the distance is merely straight line from
the x coordinates from -2 to -18
Taken as absolute value since distance is considered
to be positive: |-18-(-2)| = |-16| = 16
