2x-y=4
You can just solve for x and y first. Subtract the second equation from the first to eliminate x:
2x+3y = 12
-(2x-y) = -4
0+4y = 8
y = 2
You can use y=2 in either of the original equations to find x. Plugging in to the equation 2x-y=4 gives:
2x-(2)=4
2x=6
x=3
x=3 and y=2
x+y = 5
