How much per pound did the 50 pounds of seed cost?

This is the complete question:
A pet store owner mixed two different bird seeds. She mixed 20 pounds of a seed that costs $2.25 per pound with 50 pounds of another seed. If the mixture of seeds cost $2.75 per pound, how much per pound did the 50 pounds of seed cost?

Awesome answer by Ryan.

If your teacher is looking for an equation, you could use the information Ryan used above to create the following:

20(2.25) + 50(x) = 70(2.75)

45 + 50x = 192.50

Subtract 45 from both sides:

50x = 192.50 - 45

50x = 147.50

x = $2.95/lb

Please note, Ryan's explanation is excellent IMHO, I only thought you might want to write the equation based on total cost of both types of seed, only in case your teacher expects it.  One would think the teacher would like Ryan's answer even better, but I've seen teacher's take off a point here or there because they were too lazy to read.  ;)

Have a great day and great job again, Ryan.
