First, you should distribute the -12 to both of the terms within the parentheses.  This will make the problem look something like:

 

ax + b < c

 

Now, you want to subtract b from both sides, so you end up with something like this:

 

ax < d

 

Finally, divide both sides by a, and you have your answer!

 

Just remember one thing: if "a" is negative, you'll have to reverse the inequality sign!
