An equation is a mathematical sentence that includes only numbers and an equal sign, that is, "=". For example, 5 + 9 = 14.
A linear equation is a mathematical sentence that includes numbers, an equal sign and one or more variables with exponent 1. Here are some examples:
x + 7 = 10
4y - 3 = 2y + 3
Notice that, in the preceding examples, x is the same as writing x1. This explanation applies similarly with y.
A linear inequality is a somehow related to a linear equation but with the only difference that instead of using an equal sign, any of the following symbols are used: > (more than), < (less than), > (more or equal than), or < (less or equal than).
Examples:
6s - 7 > 35
7n - 5 < 4n + 16
