Choices 2 and 3 are poor choices. This is because these samples would not be random. There are be systematic differences between salad bar students, athletes and the rest of the students that affect their love for carrots.
Choice 4 is a good choice because this method will result in a random, and hopefully representative, sample of students.
Choice 1 is also a good choice because, by including all of the students, we no longer have to worry about sampling error. However, it may be very difficult or costly to include every single student.
So choices 1 and 4 are the most valid sampling methods depending on how difficult it is to include every student.
