For percent problems the formula to memorize is:
Part = Percent x Whole (Just remember that percent is a decimal or fraction. That is, 75% is .75 or 3/4.)

So, for this question, we know a Part and the Whole; Percent is what we need to find. But, the question asks for the Percent of the Discount, not the price paid. So, let's get that number 1st.
50 - 32.5 = 17.5
Now we can use our formula.
17.50 = X x 50 or 17.5 = 50X
From there it's simple. In case you need help ...
X = 17.5/50 ... X = .35
Remember that .35 means 35%.
Again, that formula can go a long way on Percent questions.
