Question

Abigail orders a large 2 topping pizza for $14 and a medium 1 topping pizza for $10. If all costs of a medium pizza are 80% of a similar large pizza, find the price of a large plain cheese pizza and the cost of each large pizza topping.

A medium 1 topping pizza cost $10 and costs 80% of a similar large pizza.

To find the cost of a large 1 topping pizza use the equation

10=.8x where x = the price of a large 1 topping pizza

x = 12.5 so a large 1 topping pizza costs $12.50

We know that a large 2 topping pizza costs $14

14-12.5=1.5 so to add one topping to a large pizza is $1.50

If a 1 topping pizza cost $12.50 and each topping cost $1.50 then a cheese pizza (no toppings) costs $11 (12.5-1.5=11)

So a large plain cheese pizza cost $11 and each large pizza topping costs $1.50
