I think the problem is:

 

     (6/11)x + 4 = (2/11)x + 16

    

Multiply both sides by 11:

 

     6x + 44 = 2x + 176

     6x - 2x = 176 - 44

     4x = 132

 

     x = 33

You have two terms involving x; they're on opposite sides of the equation. You could immediately subtract (2/11)x from both sides, etc, etc.) but a much better way is to CLEAR FRACTIONS.  Multiply all terms, on all sides, by 11; this gives

6x + 44 = 2x +176.

 

Subtract 2x from each side, and also subtract 44 from both sides, getting:  4x = 132, from which x = 132/4 = 33.
