Wyatt is trying to put fencing around the play area in the back yard.  He has purchased four sections of fencing that each measure 22 1/2 feet long.  He needs two sections that measure 19 3/4 feet for the length and two sections that measure 15 3/4 feet each for the width.  How much fence will he have left after he installs the fencing around the play area?

This question is looking at the perimeter of the fence. The perimeter of the fence would be all the sides added together. In order to solve it add up the total fence needed and the total fencing available. Once you have this then subtract what you need from what you have and that will give you the fence remaining.

 

4 sections of 22.5 ft = 90 ft

 

Total fence needed:

2 sections of 19.75= 39.5 ft

2 section of 15.75= 31.5 ft

Total: 39.5 + 31.5 = 71 ft

 

Fence remaining:

 

90-71 = 19 ft
