• Robert works at a used car lot and earns a base pay of $150 per week and a commission of %8 of all his sale. If he needs t take home a at lest $610 per week in order to meet all his obligations, how much must he sell per week?

If S = Robert's sales

and P = weekly pay,

then

P = 150 + .08S

 

But we've been told that Robert needs to earn at least $610 a week.

 

610 ≤ 150 + .08S

 

With this inequality we can solve for S

 

Subtract 150 from each side

460 ≤ .08S

 

Divide both sides by .08

5750 ≤ S

 

So Robert must have sales of at least $5,750 each week.
