Let p = Peter's hourly pay rate; then (it says) David's = p + 1.50
What they earn if both work 40 hours is 40p + 40(p+1.5) = 940
80p + 60 = 940, after distribution
80p = 880 so p = 11, i.e. Peter makes $11 per hour, David makes $12.50.
