Hello Kendall:
There are many factors which distinguish average business writers from expert business writers. I write expert opinion reports for attorneys involved in insurance litigation. Following are some of the factors which distinguish this type of writing from average or general business writing:
- The use of industry jargon, i.e. the specific terms or language, e.g. acronyms and/or abbreviations used in a particular industry or occupation to define or add context to other contents in the writing;
- The use of required formats. There are instances where a particular format must be used to present the expert writing, especially in legal documents, e.g. lawsuits, depositions, annual reports, or other documents submitted to government agencies;
- The use of proper grammar, spelling, syntax, sentence/paragraph length margin indentations to attest to the knowledge, schooling, and education of the writer;
- The professional presentation of the expert writing. The appearance and presentation of expert writing, e.g. the binders, covers, pamphlets, booklets, fasteners, folders, attachments, exhibits, executive summaries, colors, font size and style, quality and thickness of materials, artwork, etc. used to present it could be critical to its credibility and, ultimately the success of the presenter.
Hope this helps!
