Jarrod earns $1000 a week selling insurance.  He also earns 6% commission on all of his insurances polies sold.  Last week, he sold $4200 worth of insurance policies.  How much money did Jarrod earn last week?

Jerrod automatically earns $1000 a week just for selling insurance.  In addition, he earns 6% commission on all of the policies he sells, so if he sells $4200 in policies, he makes an additional 4200 x 0.06 = $252.  Jerrod earns a total of $1000 + $252 = $1252.
