First write an exponential equation to model the situation. In general y=a(b)^x where ais the initial value, b is the multiplier, and x is time. In this case you start with a nickel so a=0.05, and it doubles every day so b=2. So the equation to use is y=0.05(2)^x.
Now that you have the equation, use it to find how much money you will have after 3 weeks. Since 3 weeks is 3(7)=21 days, plug 21in for x in the equation to get the answer.
y=0.05(2)^21=104857.6
So, you will have $104,857.60 after 3 weeks.

I just noted in a conversation to a friend that math teachers/tutors don't usually "think;" they just solve problem by rote. There have been many simple problems "solved" on this Forum with wildly impossible answers !
So, if a math teacher/tutor paused for even a second to consider that
2016 is a Leap Year and started to revise their answer, I would say, "Having an additional day in the year and an additional day in one month DOES NOT mean that there is ever an additional day in a week."
