2 feet from 9 foot fence
13 foot high window
the ladder needs to be sqr20+sqr162=
2sqr5+9sqr2
=about 9(1.414)+ 4.4721
= 12.726+4.472
= about 17.198
= about minimum 17 foot long ladder required
construct 2 right triangles
legs 13-9 & 2 and 9 &9
legs 4&2 and 9&9
add the 2 hypotenuses
the ladder is at 45 or 135 degrees with the ground
drawing a sketch might help

Raymond: Verify the ladder problem constraints (base of ladder 8’ from fence) and your subsequent calculations. My solution shows a straight ladder length at 16.4’ long with an angle of inclination of 52.43degrees, and clearing the top of the fence by 1.4’ to meet the window height of 13’ at the building.03/16/23
