? = 40% X 120 

 

You can then take the % sign out and move the decimal to the left 2 places. 

 

? = 0.4 X 120

 

Then multiply 120 by 0.4 

 

Your answer comes out to 48

Whenever your see a question that states something is a percentage (or a fraction) of something else, think multiplication.

 

So solve this problem, first restate the percentage as a decimal.

 

40% = 0.40

 

Then multiply

 

(0.40)(120) = 48
