HOW MANY LICENSE PLATES WERE ASSIGNED BETWEEN THE ONES SHOWS BELOW? ONTARIO LICENCE PLATES

An Ontario licence plate consists of four letters followed by three digits. Plates are assigned in numeric order, then alphabetical order. Assume all letters of the alphabet and all digits can be used. How many licence plates were assigned between "ACMA 213" and "DMEL 429". please help, i have been trying to figure this out for the past 3 hours.

I shall get you started. Since the numbers are assigned first, begin there.

The first plate with 213 would be AAAA 213. ACMA 213 is several plates after that. Determine that latter.

The last plate before the 429 series is ZZZZ 428. Likewise DMEL 429 is several plates after that.

 

How many plate in a series?

For the number part there are 217 (419 - 213 + 1)

Now for the letter part

Think of AAAA as the first. AAAB second, AAAC, third. AAAZ the twenty-sixth.

AABA is the twenty-seventh, AABB, the twenty-eighth. AAZZ is the 650th.

AZZZ is the 16900. ZZZZ is the 439400.

 

As of now we have 439400 x 217 and we have not determined the number before the 429 series or after the 429.
