In general, the way to approach this is to multiply out all the terms.  We call this "FOIL" when the expression is in the first form: (2x+1)(3x-2) - because when you multiply it out, you have to multiply the first terms: 2x*3x, the outside terms: 2x*(-2), the inside terms (1)*(3x) and the last terms (1)*(-2).  That gives you 6x² - 4x + 3x - 2 = 6x² - x - 2.
