It could also be 8 8+2=10-5=5

12 is the correct answer; 8 doesn't work. Start with 8 -- in two years I'll be 10. My age five years ago is 8-5 = 3. Twice the age of 3 is 6. 10 doesn't equal 6. The mistake is saying five years ago from 10. But 10 isn't your age. 10 is your age in two years. If it were a quadratic equation it might have two answers

If it was 5, he would of been in the womb or a fetus five years earlier?
