If it costs $3.50 for 2 lb of candy, how much candy can belie chased for $8.75

i am extremely bad with word problems. if I have an equation to use them I'm fine but if I don't I'm confused

If                 2 lb costs $3.50

then              x lb  costs $8.75

 

Simple cross multiplication problem...

 

2 * 8.75 = 3.50 * x    -divide both sides by 3.5 to isolate the x

 

(2 * 8.75) / 3.5  = x

 

5  = x    So your answer is 5 lbs
