Let the number be x

hence the second number is=x+8 and

thus, 2x+12=6(x+8)

=> 2x+12=6x+48... simplifying

=>6x-2x + 48=12... subtracting 2x from both sides

=>4x=12-48 ... subtracting 48 from both sides

=>4x=-36.... simplifying

=>x=-9 ... dividing both sides by 4

 

Therefore the number are -9 and -1.

 

check:

2(-9)=-18

-18+12=-6=6(-1)
