By the end of the semester, 60% of the males are still enrolled and 43 females remain enrolled as well.

Begin:    145 total         55 female        so, (145-55)=90 male

 

End:                                   43                  (60%)*(90)=54

            (43+54)=97

 

Number withdrawn = 145 – 97 = 48
