5x + 10 > 14x - 8
Inequalities work much like equations. The only thing you have to worry about is sign-flipping due to mult/dividing by a negative. If we pay attention here, though, we won't have to worry about it. First, let's subtract 5x from both sides:
5x + 10 -5x > 14x - 8 - 5x
10 > 9x - 8
Add 8 to both sides:
10 + 8 > 9x - 8 + 8
18 > 9x
Divide both sides by 9:
18 / 9 > 9x / 9
2 > x
