A stable contains chickens and sheep. Peering through the bottom of the fence, a child counts 200 legs in the stable. If the farmer tells us that there are 36 chickens in the stable, how many of the animals are sheep? (Assume that all legs have been clearly seen and correctly counted.)

36 chicken have 72 feet.

200 - 72 = 128 feet             for the sheep

128 / 4 = 32                       sheep have four feet

 

There are 32 sheep.
