The y-values, however, increase at a faster rate; they are each 4 times the previous value.
 
We can express the rule as:    y_i+1 = 4y_i             [Use this for a sequence]
 
or write it in terms of x:     y = (1/6)(4^x)                    [use this for y is a function of x]

y_i+1 = y_i • 4  I believe the bolded item should be 2 2/3 or 8/3.
