Hi Haley
Let the Speed of one jet be x m/hr and the other would be (x-66) m/hr since it is slower.
Now when they start at the same time and move in opposite direction, the effective speed will be the sum of the two speeds. So the effective speed is (x + (x-66)) m/hr.
So in one hr they are apart by x+x-66 = 2x-66 miles.
So in 7 hours they will be aprt by 7*(2x-66) miles
So our equation is 7*(2x-66) = 10696
Solving for x we get , x= 797
So the speeds are 797m/hr and 731m/hr
