Via the 1534 Act of Supremacy, the reigning king of England (which was Henry VIII at the time) was declared "the only supreme head in earth of the Church of England, called Anglicans Ecclesia." From that last Latin name, the Church of England is also known as the Anglican Church, and it is generally considered to belong to the Protestant branch of Christianity.
