Please help me understand better what the equation is.  Am I supposed to interpret the above as

 

(-½)(x²) - (2x + 5)?

 

(-1/2x²) - 2x + 5?

 

[-1/(2x2 - 2x + 5)]?

 

Without parentheses the equation is meaningless.
