Compute v and w?

Question

If v+w=[5, 1] and v-w=[1, 5], compute v and w.

 

This is vectors, 5 on top, 1 on bottom. And 1 on top, 5 on bottom.

(v+w)+(v-w) = 2v

v = ((v+w)+(v-w))/2

= ([5,1]+[1,5])/2

=[6,6]/2

=[3,3]

 

w=v-[1,5]

=[3,3]-[1,5]

=[2,-2]
