A mixed number is a form of a fraction. What makes a mixed number is the whole number paired with the fraction such as 11/2 . When in decimal form, the decimal will have a whole number, a decimal point than fraction part of the mixed number. So,
11/2 = 1.5, where the whole number 1 is placed before the decimal point and the fraction portion is after the decimal.
This is the same with words. If you are reading a story problem that says one and a half this would indicate the mixed number 11/2 or the decimal 1.5, which are all equivalent.
