Hi Jennifer,
The length is 5 ft longer than the width --> L = W + 5 . . . that's one equation that describes length in terms of width.
The perimeter is twice the length + twice the width --> 70 = 2L + 2W
Subtracting 2W from both sides--> 70 - 2W = 2L
Divide both sides by 2--> 35 - W = L . . . that's another equation that describes length in terms of width.
