Word problems (maths)

"Claire is making a loaf of bread. A loaf of bread loses 12% of its weight when it's baked. Claire wants the baked loaf to weigh 1.1kg. Work out the weight of tbe loaf of bread before it is baked"
 
I would like to know how to solve this question.

88/100 = .88
How did you set up the equation to cross multiply and get 1.1 or 1/25

1.1 is given in the problem.  It represents 88% of the total weight you started with.  So if 88 is out of a hundred ( % means 100), you want to know what amount 1.1 is 88% of.  88/100 equals 1.1 over what.  Multiply 1.1 by 100 and divide by 88.  You will get 1.25 which is the weight before baking.
