So on my math homework I saw this problem. I don't necessarily need the answer but I don't get how to divide long. My math teacher moves too  quickly in class, explained it too the class, and off to home we went. HELP ME!!!!!

When dividing long, you divide into your dividend's (683) place values separately. In this case:

Take 4 and divide it into 6. It goes into 6 one time and so 1 is placed above the 6.

You now take that 1 and multiply it into 4, your product goes under 6.

Subtract the product from the above number (6-4=2)

The 8 that is to the immediate right of the 6 is brought down to merge the 2 you got from that earlier subtraction and forms 28.

You then divide 4 into 28 and put that answer above the 8.

You loop from dividing, multiplying, subtracting and bringing down the next place value to merge into your difference, reading the dividend from left to right until you typically reach 0.

Remember that after the first step, you are not directly dividing 4 into 683 but instead into the number you got from subtracting and bringing down the next place value.
