Each batch of muffins calls for 2/3 cup of poppy seeds

 

so for 6 batches we would mutilply by 6

 

6(2/3) = 4

 

so we will need 4 cups

 

but the question is how many pounds of poppy seeds

 

so we will need some conversion factors.

 

I looked on the internet and found that 1 cup is 16 tablespoons.

 

so we multiply 4 cups times (16 tablespoons/1cup)

 

the cups will cancel leaving us 64 tablespoons.

 

Now we need to go from tablespoons to ounces and they gave us that conversion factor

 

so we say 64 tablespoons * ( 1/3 oz / 1 tablespoon)

 

there the tablespoons will cancel out and leave us with 21 1/3 oz.

 

one more step. We need to go to pounds.

 

the internet says that 16 oz equals one pound

 

so we say 21 1/3 oz * ( 1lb / 16 oz)

 

the oz cancels out leaving us with 1 1/3 lb

 

So the answer is 1 1/3 lb.

 

We could have done it all in one step like this

 

6 * (2/3 cup) * (16 tablespoons/1 cup) * (1/3 0z / 1 tablespoon) * (1pound/16 oz)

 

cups cancel. Tablespoons cancel. Oz cancels.

 

leaving 6 (2/3) (16) (1/3) (1/16)  = 1 1/3 pounds
