How would you graph the linear equation of y = 1

Question

We are doing the form of

Y = mx+b right now and have gone no further...

 

HELP!!!!

The equation y =1, means that y is one for any value of x.  Therefore you will get a straight horizontal line that goes through (-1,1) (0,1), (1,1), (2, 1) etc..   It will be parallel to the y-axis, but one unit up, as I have tried to illustrate below:

The slope-intercept form of a line looks like:   y = mx + b   

  where m=slope

  and b = y-intercept (the y-value when x=0)

 

The problem gives the equation y=1.

  That is,   y=(0)x + 1             the slope is 0 (horizontal line) and the y=intercept is the point (0,1)

Hi Jillian,

 

You can think of this equation as being the same as Y = 0X + 1

 

So the slope is zero, meaning it's a horizontal line going through Y = 1.
