Hi Dalinda, the first step is to determine how long it took Jeff to walk the 8.84 miles.
This is an application of the D(istance) = T(ime) * R(ate) formula.
Here we know the distance, 8.84 miles and we know the rate, 3.4 miles per hour. To find the time, all we have to do is divide the distance by the rate to find the time or 8.84 / 3.4, which equals 2.6 hours.
If Jeff walked an additional 1.6 hours at the same speed, he walked a total of 4.2 hours.
