multiple the bottom equation by -3 to get:
-12x-3y=15
add the first equation to the equation above:
2x+3y=5
-12x-3y=15
The y variables cancel out and you are left with the following:
-10x=20
solve for X by dividing both sides by -10.
x=-2.
Plug -2 in for X into one of the original equations:
4(-2)+y=-5 >>> -8+y=-5
solve for y by adding 8 to both sides:
y=3
