A horizontal water pipe diameter 15 cm converges to 7.5 cm diameter. If the pressures at the two sections are 4 kgf/cm2, and 1.5 kgf/cm2 respectively, calculate the flow rate of water

A 7.5 cm diameter hose contains water flowing at a rate of 0.085 m3/s. If the pressure within the pipe is 0.7 kgf/cm2 gauge, work out the maximum height to which the water may be sprayed?

This is a conservation of energy concept.

 

Use this formula

 

Q₁ = Q₂

 

A₁v₁ = A₂v₂

 

where:

Q = flow rate

A = cross-sectional area

v = velocity

 

You will also need to use the Bernoulli equation to find the velocities at each section.

 

(P₁ / γ) + (v₁² / 2g) + z₁ = (P₂ / γ) + (v₂² / 2g) + z₂

 

where:

P = pressure

ϒ = 9.81 kN/m³

g = 9.81 m/s²

z₁ = z₂
