From what I understand, a proper subset contains some of the values within a grouping, but without extra values.
In this case, because the set is (1,2,3,4,5) a proper subset could be (1,2,3) or (1,2,3,4) or (1,3,5) or... because they are all part of the set that is given but do not have values that are not within the set.
