Hello John,
We can find out how many teaspoons it takes to make 36 muffins in two different ways. Both of these ways require both multiplication and division:
Method 1: Find out how many teaspoons it takes to make a single muffin. Then multiply this number by 36.
Method 2: Another way is to find out how many batches of 8 muffins must be made to make 36 muffins. Then multiply the amount needed for one batch by this number.
Method 1: 1 and 1/2 teaspoons can be represented as a decimal (1.5 teaspoons). 1.5 teaspoons divided by 8 muffins tells you how many teaspoons are needed to make a single muffin. This answer is 0.1875 teaspoons per muffin. This number can be multiplied by 36 to get the total number of teaspoons required to make 36 muffins. This answer is 6.75 teaspoons (or 6 and 3/4 teaspoons).
Method 2: You can divide 36 by 8 to find the number of batches of muffins that must be made to make 36 muffins. 36/8 = 4.5 (or 4 and 1/2) batches. Because it takes 1 and 1/2 teaspoons to make a batch of 8 muffins, then it should take 1 and 1/2 teaspoons times 4.5 (or 4 and 1/2) batches to make 36 muffins. The answer is again 6.75 teaspoons (or 6 and 3/4 teaspoons).
