Help with unit rates.

Question

Mr.Green is repairing the bathroom and kitchen faucets .the bathroom faucet leaks 8 ounces of water in 12 minutes.The kitchen faucet is dripping at 6 ounces in 10 minutes.

 

A)What is the  unit rate for both faucets.

 

B)Is the relationship between time and ounces proportional for each faucet?

Unit rate for the bathroom faucet - 8/12 ounces/min = 0.75 oz/min = 3/4 oz/min

Unit rate for the kitchen faucet - 6/10 = 3/5 oz/min - two rates show different coefficients of proportionality between amounts of water leaked and time.

 

Unit rate or both faucets = (3/4) + (3/5) = 27/20 = 1.35 oz/min.
